Documentation Branches & workspaces

Branches & workspaces

Workspaces are listed in the left sidebar under the current project. Each one stores its own copy of files inside CloudCode, and can optionally have a matching branch on GitHub.

Creating a workspace

Click "New workspace" in the sidebar. Enter a name and an optional description. Choose "Clone from" to copy another workspace's files and environment variables, or start empty. The branch name is derived from the workspace name unless you type one. If the project is linked to GitHub, tick "Create GitHub branch" to create that branch from main.

Switching and organizing

Click a workspace to make it active. Right-click it (or use the … button) to rename it, edit its description, duplicate it, set its status, or delete it.

Comparing and merging

"Compare with…" shows a diff between two workspaces. "Merge to…" copies one workspace's files into another. The merge dialog lists new, modified and unchanged files, and you resolve each conflict by keeping the source, keeping the target, or editing manually. This merge happens inside CloudCode and doesn't create a git merge. Push afterwards if you want the result on GitHub.

Opening a PR from a workspace

"Create PR…" opens the PRs tab with the workspace's branch pre-filled as the head branch.

Warning
Workspace isolation is partial today. The Files tab, the dev preview, and the GitHub Push tab use all of the project's files, not just the active workspace's. To deploy one workspace on its own, use the Source picker in Project Dashboard → Deploy.
